Do you store my manuscript or cover files?

Not by default. When you format an interior, build a cover, or watermark a review copy, the file is handled entirely inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing for us to store, read, or lose. You can open your browser's Network tab and watch.

There are exactly three ways a copy of your book ends up on our server, and you start all three on purpose.

1. Cloud backup (the ☁ button)

If you're signed in, each book in My Books has a button that backs the whole project up to your account — cover, settings, front and back matter, and your manuscript. It's there so a cleared browser or a dead laptop isn't the end of your book.

  • Up to 10 books, 25 MB each.
  • A backup expires 60 days after its last edit, and opening it resets the clock.
  • You can delete one at any time from My Books, and it's gone.
  • Nobody presses this for you. A book you never back up is never uploaded.

2. ARC Delivery

When you ask us to email review copies, those specific files pass through our system to be sent — that's the entire point of the service. They're stored just long enough to deliver (links expire after 30 days), then deleted automatically, files and records together.

Watermarking a copy yourself and sending it yourself uploads nothing. See Watermarking vs. delivery.

3. Concierge

If you order Concierge, you send us the manuscript and any cover art — we can't set a book we can't read. Two things are kept, on two clocks:

  • Your kit, and the manuscript and art you sent us, for 30 days after your first download of the kit — or 60 days after delivery if you never download it. Then all of it is deleted. Download the kit and save it: that copy is yours for good.
  • The finished project in your account, so you can keep working on it, for 90 days from delivery or from your last edit, whichever is later. Then that copy comes down. Your purchase is unaffected.

In one line

We don't store your files. You can choose to (60 days), or you can buy a service whose whole job is storage — ARC Delivery (30 days) and Concierge (the kit for 30 days after you first download it; the copy in My Books for 90 days). Nothing else about your book is on our servers at any point.

What else we keep

If you have an account — because you made one, or because we made one for the email you paid with — your email address (for sign-in) and your license keys (so purchases sync across devices). That's it. The full list, with how long each thing is kept, is in our Privacy Policy.
