Font licenses and credits
Generated from the font files themselves, so it matches what the site actually serves. 72 typefaces are bundled with the Cover Maker and the Interior Formatter.
Every face here is free for commercial use, and embedding it in the PDF and EPUB files you export is permitted. That is deliberate: a cover whose fonts are not embedded is rejected by printers, and a font you cannot embed is useless for making a book. Nothing you export carries a license obligation to us.
The two faces that are not what they are called
The picker offers Times and Helvetica because those are the names authors look for. The files are not those typefaces. They are Tinos and Arimo, drawn by Steve Matteson and released under the Open Font License, and they are metrically compatible with Times New Roman and Arial — same widths, so text set in them occupies the same space. Times New Roman, Times, Helvetica and Arial are trademarks of their respective owners and are named here only to say what these faces are compatible with.
Luciole
The Large Print edition is set in Luciole, designed by Laurent Bourcellier and Jonathan Perez and drawn specifically for low-vision readers. Luciole is licensed CC BY 4.0, which — unlike the Open Font License — carries a real attribution requirement. Books you export in Large Print carry that credit on the copyright page, and in the PDF's own document properties, so it is there even in a book built without a copyright page.
Small-capital faces
Four of the interior faces have true small capitals derived from the original fonts rather than faked by shrinking capitals. Derived versions are distributed under the same Open Font License as their sources. One of them descends from SIL's Gentium, which reserves its name, so it ships under a name of our own rather than Gentium's.
