Do I need an account?

No account is needed to use the tools, preview your work, or even to buy. Everything runs in your browser, and a purchase gives you a license key on the spot.

Signing in (with a one-time emailed link — no password) does two useful things:

• Keeps your license keys safe and synced. Sign in on your laptop and your phone and your unlocked books follow you automatically, so you're never hunting for a key.
• Lets you back a book up to your account and manage your purchases from the My Books page.

Your books are stored locally in your browser whether or not you sign in. Signing in doesn't upload anything by itself — a book goes to your account only when you press the ☁ button on it. See Where are my books saved? and Do you store my manuscript or cover files?
