What is an edition statement?

An edition statement is a short line like "First Edition" on the copyright page. It tells readers and libraries which version of the book they have.

It's optional for a first release, and many debut books simply omit it. It becomes useful when you publish a substantially revised version later — that would be a "Second Edition," and marking editions keeps the versions distinct. If you're not sure, leaving it off (or "First Edition") is perfectly fine. The generator includes it only if you fill it in.
