Links in your ebook
A reader who has just finished your book and wants to find you should not have to type a web address into a phone. Anywhere you enter a URL in the Front & Back Matter tool, it becomes a real link in your ebook.
The three places you can put one
- Publisher website — under Imprint. It prints on the copyright page, and in the ebook it also makes your publisher's mark tappable.
- Author website — under About the author. Appears at the end of your bio.
- Newsletter or website link — under Note to readers, alongside the review ask. This is the one that earns its keep: it sits on the first page after your last chapter, where a reader who just finished is most likely to act.
How to type them
However you like. belladreypress.com, www.belladreypress.com and https://belladreypress.com/ all work — we add the https:// a link needs and drop it again for display, so your reader sees a clean address rather than punctuation.
Only ordinary web addresses become links. Anything else is printed exactly as you typed it and left alone.
What each edition does with them
In the ebook, they are real links. Tapping the publisher's mark opens the imprint's site; the newsletter and website lines are tappable where they appear.
In the paperback, they are printed as text, because paper cannot be tapped. The publisher website gets its own line on the copyright page, under Published by. This is the normal convention and the reason to keep addresses short and typeable — a reader may be copying one out by hand.
A word about retailers
Links in ebooks are ordinary and every store allows them, but keep them pointed at your own sites. Retailers take a dim view of links that read as sending customers to a competing store, and a broken or mistyped address can trip a store's quality checks after you have published. Check each one in a browser before you upload.
