Can I print the price on my barcode?

Yes. When you've entered your own ISBN, the ISBN & Barcode section can print the retail price as a small EAN-5 price add-on — the extra block of bars to the right of the main barcode. It's optional; most self-publishers leave it off and let the retailer handle pricing, but some authors like to print it.

Turning it on

1. Enter your ISBN-13 (the add-on rides on the main barcode, so a valid ISBN is required).
2. Tick Print price on barcode.
3. Pick a currency and type the price, e.g. 12.99.

The barcode area widens automatically to fit the pair, and the price prints above the add-on bars.

Currencies

• $ USD and £ GBP are the two official book-price codes. They encode prices up to 99.99.
• € EUR has no standard barcode price code — the euro was never assigned one. We still encode the amount, but be aware that some scanners read the leading digit as pounds. If you sell into euro stores, confirm with your distributor whether they want a printed price at all; many ignore the add-on and price at the till.

If you leave the price blank while the option is on, the barcode prints the standard "no price" code (90000), which is perfectly valid.

Should you use it?

• Amazon KDP / print-on-demand: usually no. The retailer sets the price, and a printed price locks you in. Leave it off unless you have a reason.
• Bookstore / distributor copies: some trade channels expect a printed price. Use the currency and amount they ask for.
